Function & Femininity

I'm getting workhorse panniers for grocery shopping but I also want some pretty ones too for trips to the Farmers Market or whatnot
Browsing the Basil site today I came upon these which I think may be part of a new Spring/Summer line

Also this the front basket I'll get someday, also from Basil

Perfect for picnics or trips to the bakery.

Going to hopefully hit up my favorite Edmonton LBS on Friday so see if they have any of the panniers in stock or can order in.  Also SWWOOONNN the Brooks saddle that is also on my wishlist

Brooks B66 S
Eventually some new skirtguards from Simele
I now predict this summer will be awesome with frilly flowing peasant skirts and lots of rides to the park for picnics and laying around daydreaming:)

Apples or Oranges

I had a chance to ride Eliza one last time this morning. It was a short ride as I was nursing a migraine coupled with bouts of vertigo though.

After riding both and then after Deborah rode both (from Loop-Frame Love)  I think I get the differences in the ride

  • Eliza is more a relaxed seat pushed back kind of ride to me whereas the Sparta is a way more upright ride
  • While I hate the modern step through frame because the handlebar to seat post seems too close and the Sparta is also shorter than Eliza its not like the modern bikes. Does that make sense?

Its hard to believe the Sparta is only a few years older than my son and still maintains a vintage feel.  Though I have extracted a promise from Deborah that if in the end Eliza doesn't work for her then I get 1st rights to buy her back:)

Deborah looks so cute on her new DL-1.  Her adorable son cajoled her into a second test ride:)

Introducing Sophi The Dutch Sparta

This is Sophi, my new to me Vintage Sparta.  My bicycle repairman dates her either either 1984 or 1985.  She is going to be my main ride and my now hated hybrid will go to my husband which makes him happy.

As much as I love Eliza since I'm carfree I wanted a bicycle that not only could be for pleasure rides but for getting a load of groceries or whatnot.   Sophi suits that need perfectly.

While her top tube isn't like Eliza's I still like it overall and again for what her use will be for it will be be a really great ride:)  I already love riding her.

She'll get new tires this weekend and my Bicycle repairman will change her hub and fix the gearing so I can tackle the few hills we have here in Edmonton too.  I'll be getting a front porteur rack too and will be looking around for a nice lidded basket like Dottie at LGRAB has for her Oma.   A Brooks saddle too after I'm working again.   Luckily its a short wishlist.

Musical Bicycles, Winter Blues and Depression

So tomorrow or sometime this week the Raleigh aka Eliza is going to a new home.  For myself I have acquired a older but not really old Dutch Step Through which I'll post pictures up of shortly.  I have decided that Dutch bikes all the way for me in the future and have started a piggy bank this weekend to save up for a Workcycles Oma.  It may take me a few years but its a worthy goal to work for.

Its been a very difficult winter for me and I'm darned happy that its pretty much over too.  I've suffered from really bad depression and compounded by a very toxic work environment I've been very miserable the last 8 weeks.  But now the sun is starting to shine and I'm officially unemployed I can start riding again and try to recapture my happy place.

This week I'll be riding,  apologizing to the owner of a wonderful bike shop for deciding not to buy the Pashley  and starting my Spring cleaning/purge.

Its getting to be that time again

Helloooooo Spring and C'mon Summer!!

I'm back and with a possible new surprise ride to bring into my fold. Of course that has to fit with my "something in, something out" rule so a ride will be departing quite possibly but it will be going to a great new home if it does:)

On Hiatus

I decided against Winter Biking this year.  I did finally find another job, a good one, but the scheduling is still all over the place so until I get situated I wont have time to figure out biking in snow/ice.

See you all in early Spring if not sooner!!

Happy Holidays!!

Still Around

I'm still around and I apologize again for the lack of post.  I was thrown a curve ball in this game of Life so Ive been on a bike hiatus. However I'm realizing how much I have missed biking so I'll be up and about again. Just in time to try winter biking too!!!

Much Love & Happy Biking!
